During a Senate confirmation hearing this week, Hawaii U.S. Senator Mazie Hirono asked Interior Secretary nominee Doug Burgum, “Since you became a legal adult, have you ever made unwanted requests for sexual favors or committed any verbal or physical harassment or assault of a sexual nature?” Also this week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 30, the Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act, which amends the Immigration and Naturalization Act to protect American citizens from criminal sexual offenses committed by persons in the country illegally. This legislation is a no brainer and should have had unanimous support. One hundred and forty five Democrats voted Nay.
