Wow, America 250! Fifty years ago, I had just finished my first year of junior high school. I had never attended a school nor lived in a home that had central air conditioning. Gerald Ford was President and 1976 was an election year. My school had a big bicentennial program complete with skits and songs performed for our community. The girls in my class went all out – sewed skirts, aprons, and bonnets in colonial fashion. In my social studies class, we had a Gerald Ford vs. Jimmy Carter debate. The class was equally divided in whom they were supporting. I was a Gerald Ford fan. My best friend was a Jimmy Carter fan. Politics was not so divisive back then. What happened?
