1. I should no longer be surprised by the tragic outcomes of actions driven by Leftist Marxist philosophy, but I find myself shocked and awed daily. The Loyola University Chicago Phoenix, the school newspaper, initially got the story right about Loyola freshman Sheridan Gorman’s murderer. Jose Medina-Medina is an illegal immigrant. Anger expressed by some members of the campus community resulted in the following Editor’s Note being posted to an article concerning the heartbreaking event, “On March 23, a post on The Phoenix’s Instagram page carried the following headline: ‘Immigrant Man Charged in Murder of Sheridan Gorman, DHS involved.’ That headline didn’t reflect the most important elements in the story and was taken down minutes later to prevent any further harm to the affected community members. Additionally, in the body of the original post, we described the man who was charged as an ‘illegal immigrant,’ using language provided by the Department of Homeland Security. That language does not align with Associated Press style, nor does it align with the values of this newspaper. No human’s existence is illegal, and we quickly changed our wording to reflect that. We acknowledge the harm such language can cause and the power and importance of the words we choose to use. We deeply regret these errors, and we’re committed to continuing the high standards we hold for ourselves as journalists and members of the Loyola, Rogers Park and Chicago communities.” I e-mailed the above-mentioned article from the Phoenix website to myself and boy was I surprised. What I received was not the article but a page titled, “Map: Submit ICE sighting to the Phoenix” complete with instructions on how to submit sightings to the Phoenix staff. To be clear, the term “illegal immigrant” does not imply that the humanity of the person so denominated is invalid. “Illegal immigrant” refers to the person’s legal status, which is that he is illegally resident in the U.S. The editor who wrote the apology published nine words in memory of Sheridan Gorman, “Let all that you do be done in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:14. Was the editor’s memorial Biblical quotation a heartfelt admission or surrender to the Leftist Marxist mob that corrupts Biblical teachings for Satan’s glory?

Katie Abraham, an Ohio University junior, was killed on 1/19/2025 while in a car stopped at a light in Urbana, IL by a drunken Guatemalan illegal alien who slammed his Mitsubishi SUV travelling at a high rate of speed into the stationary Honda Civic. Katie died at the scene. Chloe Polzin died the next day at a hospital. Three young women survived the accident. Julio Cucul-Bol managed to flee on foot and was arrested by U.S. Marshals while on a bus bound for Mexico. Senor Cucul-Bol had been previously deported from the U.S. In May 2025, he was indicted by a grand jury for possessing a false permanent resident card, possessing a false Social Security card, false use of a passport and making a false statement on a bank application in 2023. Senor Cucul-Bol agreed to a plea deal in October 2025 and entered a guilty plea for aggravated DUI involving death, leaving the scene of a fatal crash, aggravated DUI causing bodily harm, and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
