Thought and Songs for Today

God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. John 3:16-18

To say God is love is not just saying it is something God does – it is who He is. God’s love is the pure eternal communion of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – a love that precedes and surpasses all creation. Because God is Love is His very essence, it flows from God abundantly. God loves because He is Love. Today’s Gospel reveals the perfect expression of God’s divine essence as God gives His Son so that we may have eternal life. God rescues us from condemnation so that we may share in His Divine Existence. To believe in the Son is to begin to participate in the love that flows between the Father and the Son in the Holy Spirit. A love that never ends. Reflect today on the Holy Trinity. We were made to share in Their life and love. Though the Holy Trinity remains a mystery beyond comprehension, it is not beyond human encounter. Through grace, contemplation, and prayer, God draws us to Himself, not to explain Himself, but to be consumed by Him.

Holy Holy Holy Lord God Almighty
