1. The shutdown continues. I have a friend whose 20 something year old son married last year. This year, the young man and his wife bought their first house. The young man is a civilian employee at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and has been showing up to work and working the last three weeks, but he will have to wait until the shutdown ends in order to receive his pay check. Unfortunately, the holders of the young man’s mortgage (also collector of the young man’s property taxes), car loan, and utility suppliers expect to be paid on time. Now that Democrats have had their photo op/sound bite protest moment, I hope they can get down to actually doing their job to get hundreds of thousands of federal employees paid for doing an honest day’s work.

2. Ohio news. We do have an Ohio redistricting issue playing out at the statehouse. Also, Republicans have proposed legislation that would require all mail-in ballots to be received by the time polls close on election day. Democrats are always moaning about how Republicans are making it so hard for people to vote. Really. In Ohio, voters have roughly four weeks to request, receive, fill out, and mail in a ballot. The ballot should be required to be received by election day. The postal service is no longer a pony express venture. Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation of the effectiveness of her leadership. Remember the Cincinnati brawl three months ago? After I read the story concerning the police chief, I let my fingers do the walking on the internet and sure enough there is a mayoral race in Cincinnati this year. There has been an uptick in violent crime in Cincinnati. Of note, Cincinnati has not had a Republican mayor since 1971. The last time a Republican candidate appeared on the general ballot for a mayoral race was 16 years ago. I guess current Democratic Mayor Aftab Pureval, who is running for reelection against J.D. Vance’s half brother Republican Cory Bowman, is reassuring voters that he is serious about crime. I included two articles below that discuss a heinous crime that occurred in Cleveland, Ohio. The unthinkable crime was committed by 9 and 10 year olds. Please pray for all of those involved in this sordid event. Only God can fix this mess.
